Various magazines, various designers and pretty much every person who’s walked through the front door have congratulated Stephen on what he’s achieved at The Chelsea. And after, oh, about three seconds, the Greenwood Guides followed suit.....

.... This is a beautiful place, created from 1870s terraced houses in a quiet Darlinghurst road. We visited on a March day when the rest of Sydney was heating up, but The Chelsea is a place where there always seems to be a breeze to soothe fevered brows. Stephen has created a light-filled temple to good taste, a seamless collection of bright, stylish, yet immensely liveable spaces. Light pours in through skylights and French windows onto yellow walls. The downstairs area is floored in warm Italian tiles and drifts into a courtyard bursting with flowers, lillipilli trees and pond. Bedrooms are a joy - either dreamily French provincial or sleekly contemporary. All have sisal rugs, damask linen and big mirrors, and most have doors opening onto conservatory, courtyard or private balcony looking over Darlinghurst. Don’t get the wrong impression though: The Chelsea is as informal as it is stylish. Guests can help themselves to the fridge, take wee Lewis for a walk or just sit in courtyard or lounge and chat to Stephen about what to do if they can be persuaded out of the house.
