This is a classic Greenwood find: informal, homely, brilliantly run and very charismatic. Your hosts gave up the London finance markets and came home to host.....

.... And they excel. David is originally Tasmanian, then had a spell in Europe, then Africa… before finally he swapped baking in the deserts for baking desserts (ow!). Yes, they are rather good at cooking too. No sooner had a frosted glass of Jenny’s lemonade arrived than a selection of delicacies was placed before me, most memorable among which were a melt-in-the-mouth Middle Eastern orange cake and squares of chocolate hazelnut panforte. You can even pick your own custard apples, lychees, bananas, mulberries and macadamia nuts in season. David’s dishes are always locally sourced, if not home-grown, and a typical example of a main course at dinner might be chargrilled swordfish steak on cauliflower purée with oven-roasted tomatoes. The 100-year-old house sits pretty at the top of a verdant valley and the grounds, landscaped to include a vogueish swimming pool surrounded by wide wooden decking, look over grassy pastures and fruit trees. Back inside, an open-plan, funky kitchen separates the family’s area from the guests’. Bedrooms are country-style with white downy duvets, cane and wicker chairs and gingham cushions and all but one open onto the enveloping verandah. Noosa’s beaches and Eumundi Markets are nearby.
