Phillip Island - or the ‘Nature Island’ - is home to the largest seal colony in the southern hemisphere, Australia’s famous Penguin Parade (a nightly march of the world’s smallest penguins), Swan Lake (where you’ll find graceful birds but no tutus) and, luckily for you, the Bakers. Madeleine and Ian bought the heritage Glen Isla House and gardens some years ago and have worked painstakingly ever since to restore them.....

.... The six purpse-architected GlenIsla 'classic' bedrooms (named Green, Gold, Blue, Oriental, French and English Rose) are subtly coloured and themed as you might imagine and hint at your hosts’ well-travelled past. Ian and Madeleine have sampled the delights and pitfalls of many establishments on their travels and learnt first-hand exactly what the weary (and not so weary) globe-trotter wants; hence the emphasis on privacy, great food, park-like gardens, oodles of character and beach-handy position (a mere 100m from the back gate). Your hosts will happily advise on things to see and do on Phillip Island (and there's a lot to see). If you’re a food and wine buff then Ian is your man. While most mid-life transformations are triggered by an unfulfilled yearning for fast cars, motorbikes and dodgy haircuts, Ian chose instead to follow a new culinary path and join the ranks of his two professional-chef sons. The European-style table d’hôte dinners are well worth booking in for and his impressive wine collection is vast enough to warrant an on-site cellar in the garden. If you’re after some serious pampering the luxurious Anderson Heritage Suite is unsurpassed on the island.
