Gayle and Bob's contemporary take on a traditional Queenslander brings to life a temple of cool elegance. This is a house that’s big on space, small on clutter, with stylish and restful rooms throughout.....

.... Wander at will and you come across stone cherubs on plinths in bedrooms, ancient Indian pillars in the hall, flaming stainless-steel torches around the pool and a Balinese timber sofa in the gazebo. Bedrooms take your breath away. You sleep on the best linen, amid neutral earth colours on beds piled high with cushions. Doors lead out to small private courtyards, where you may find a plumped-up sofa or an ornate stone wall carving. The bridal suite has a four-poster in colonial style, wrapped up in a mosquito net. Bathrooms, likewise, are as good as they come, with the finest tiles, double showers and spa baths. And for those with an amour for glamour, the recently finished penthouse fills the upstairs level. It has a baby grand piano, an ancient Indian seat placed for the view, the swankiest of kitchens and an office in the tower. Breakfast on banana pancakes or poached eggs, with one eye on the sea scanning for dolphins. The beach starts across the road and if you turn left out of the front door, a two-minute stroll will take you past five good restaurants.
