Staying at the Spotted Chook is like visiting your best friend who happens to live in a five-star hotel. Inspired by their long travels in France and Austria, Leeroy and Jane created this sprawling, colourful inn themselves.....

.... Built on poles along the side of a hill and split-level throughout, bedroom windows and antique doors fling open to wide verandahs. From here you peek through the tree canopy to views over the valley and the Baroon Pocket Dam. The large beds are hand-made and individually dressed with bold-coloured linens; the bathtubs are claw-foot or sunken and the sofas proper and feathery. Chickens crop up all over the place, sometimes real, sometimes as topiary, paintings or sculptures. For dinner you will be offered a mouth-watering and inventive menu, which might include Gympie goat’s cheese and asparagus wrapped in Parma ham and served with a macadamia nut dressing or Moreton Bay bugs (a shellfish) with herb fettuccine and chilli cream sauce. Breakfast is no less decadent with blueberry pancakes, eggs Benedict and fluffy omelettes on offer. The chooks (and Blackberry the sheep) have technically been banned from the house so there should be buckets of roses sitting on the old pine tables. There is nowhere quite like this… Wake to mist in the valley, native birdsong in the rainforest, swimming at the bottom of the paddocks, fishing in the lake.
