“The way the mist sometimes hangs in the valley it’s almost as if you’re looking down from a plane,” Carol excitedly commented on the dramatic daily-different views that surround Amamoor. Ken and Carol have been here for 15 years but it seems the novelty is still as fresh as the day they ran away from the city.....

.... The homestead was originally a working mango farm, but now, although most of the fruit trees are still in situ, Carol has wound down her chutney and condiment-making hours. This doesn’t mean the trees are allowed to keep hold of their fruit though. With plans to extend her flair with food into the breakfast, Carol will serve only the freshest home-grown stone-fruit, bananas and veggies from her own garden and next-door's orchard. I say ‘plans’ because when I visited, ‘Amamoor the B&B’ was still in its fledgling stage and a matter of days from receiving its first guests. Ken took me for a 4WD tour of the property, talking eagerly about the planting of native Australian trees to encourage the koalas and other wildlife. “It’s an absolute birding paradise” he gushed. I’d highly recommend the bumpy ride to the top of the hill for the sundowner and views. Both rooms have separate access and decking areas, fridges and use of the guest-specific lounge, kitchen and spa. You can be as private as you like, but with hosts as charming and humorous as the Groths you may just find yourself with a beer in your hand, laughing on the deck.
