Built in 1901 as a display of wealth, North Bundaleer lay in a state of disrepair until the Booths came along to restore its opulent glory. The result is stunning, from the Arts and Crafts Movement hallway to an ornate ballroom lined with hand-painted, Lincrusta wallpaper and burled walnut door-panels.....

.... The sitting-room is a stately synthesis of Corinthian columns, intricate rugs and crystal chandeliers. The dining-room houses a formidable Irish Georgian table where Marianne hosts convivial dinner parties. The bedrooms are breathtaking, particularly the Red Room: cotton damask canopy bed, spot muslin drapes and damask pillows. This one has its own sitting-room and the most exquisite bathroom: an entire conservatory devoted to translucent ablutions. It could all be a little overwhelming if it wasn’t for Marianne and Malcolm’s down-to-earth style. They encourage you to use the house as your own, helping yourself to the pantry or bar: just donate to the colourful collection of cocktail-sticks. Marianne is a pedigree hostess and a love of entertaining courses through her veins. She was keen to show me where guests are whisked for picnics and sundowners. We bounced past cows and chickens, blue gums and creek beds, up to a hilltop panorama surveying pastures, plantations and the majesty of a troop of euros in full flight (that’s kangaroos, not Belgians). When we returned, she whipped up a sublime omelette and invited the neighbouring farmer to join us. Clare Valley tours, ballooning, 4WD and scenic flights.
