I can only assume that the miner struck gold! This is a perfect synthesis of natural landscape, stylish design, brilliant renovation and delightful hosts. The inside is ravishing, with white-washed walls, crisp linen, piles of cushions, dried lavender and rosemary on racks.....

...... even a Christmas tree in December. It’s small and snug, extremely romantic and it just gets better (which is saying something) when you walk out back to your private verandah and find lush views along Yakka Creek through tall, shimmering gum trees. Kangaroos come in to drink, cockatoos fly by, so grab the binoculars and sit out back for an hour or two, watching life go by. You can stroll down to the pool for a swim or keep going and walk around the 66 acres that cocoon you. There are heaps of old gold mines on one side or you can strike out for the reservoir on the other. By day the Barossa and its wineries are on your doorstep or, if you want more adventure, Godfrey is a pilot and runs day tours up into the Flinders and the outback beyond - a great way to see this beautiful state. Perfect. Barossa goldfields walk, winery cellar door tastings, cooking schools, ballooning, gliding.
