This is the epicentre of the Barossa with Jacob’s Creek - the actual creek, that is - passing by about 100 metres from the front door. Better still, the house is surrounded on all sides by vineyards that produce grapes for three of South Australia’s finest: Rockford’s, Charles Melton and Trevor Jones.....

.... Jack and Lesley have 17 acres of vineyards of their own, which supply the aformentioned luminaries and you are welcome to stroll around or lend a hand. Alternatively, they can arrange for you to visit the cellars for tastings. The settlement here goes back to 1851 and the beautifully converted barns and stables where you sleep have kept their original beams, fireplaces, stone floors and high ceilings. There are wicker chairs on the verandah outside each room, while inside you’ll find rugs, brass beds, ceiling fans and good bathrooms. Breakfast comes to you on trays and you can choose from a long list of cooked delights: eggs Benedict, fresh herb omelettes, or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. When you’ve eaten, you can walk to the end of the garden and thank the chooks. On your way down you’ll pass fruit trees - apple, pear, orange, grapefruit and lemon - and perhaps Wellington and Charlie, their lovely dogs.
